About

R P Singh

I started my career in Rourkela Steel Plant as a Graduate Engineer and moved to Bokaro Steel Plant after a few years.

I moved to RINL in 1980 when its Vizag Steel Project was in very initial stage. As a senior member of the Project Team, I was involved in setting up the 3.0 MTPA green-field project of Vizag Steel Plant, RINL, from start to finish, and stabilisation of production.

In 1996, I moved to Tata Steel as part of the Project Department. I retired from Tata Steel in 2009, as Vice president, Engineering & Project, but continued my association with Tata Steel as Advisor to MD for 5 years. During my tenure in Tata Steel, I was instrumental in conceptualisation of expansion of Jamshedpur Steel Plant from 3.5 MTPA to 10 MTPA. This expansion scheme was completed before the scheduled completion date as decided by the Board of Directors of Tata Steel, and within the approved Project Cost. The ramp up of production to 10 MT capacity was also very fast and without any problem. While executing this massive project world bench mark was achieved, both in execution time and cost. Case studies on implementation of this Project have been were written by IIM professors.

While working in Tata steel, I was appointed as a Non-Executive Vice Chairman of Tata Consulting Engineers, a company in Tata group, and my responsibility was to create a 10-year vision for that company, and take the company to greater heights. Within a few years of my taking up this role, the company’s top line and bottom line increased many folds.

Post my retirement from Tata Steel, I have been associated as an independent consultant with many large PSUs and Private companies, where I advise them on how to execute projects in an exemplary way and to maximise return on their investment.

In 2014, I was associated with SAIL as Advisor. I was also associated with MECON as Advisor to Chairman for a few years. In 2017, I was engaged by Ministry of Steel for turnaround of Bokaro Steel Plant.

I have also been an advisor to Tata Metaliks, Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores, BVG India and Thejo, and a mentor to RINL.
